John Lawrie Tubulars (USA), the American arm of the Aberdeen headquartered John Lawrie Group, is a specialist in the supply of steel tubulars for piling to the American construction industry. The business has been expanding its services across America with recent investment in a new yard and the expansion of existing sites. Added to this, the purchase of new equipment has meant the company is better placed to service the American construction market now more than ever.
In May, the company opened Phase 1 of a new 8-acre yard in Camden, New Jersey to complement its existing five sites across Texas, Colorado, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. This new yard includes a 123,000 sq. ft. warehouse, a 5,000’ ft. garage as well as office space.
In August, groundwork commenced on Phase 2 of the Northeast expansion, extending the Camden site by another five acres. Situated close to excellent transport links, the new acreage is providing the company with the additional capacity to store thousands of tonnes of pipe that is ready to ship to clients in the North East and across the country. Plans are also underway for capital investment in Phase 3 of the expansion, converting the warehouse space to a state-of-the-art, full-service fabrication operation for cutting, beveling, and welding pipe to exact client specifications. Phase 3 development of the warehouse should be completed in Q4 of 2020.
In Houston, at John Lawrie Tubulars’ US headquarters, work is also underway to develop on-site facilities including over £1.1 million ($1.5m USD) of investment in capital equipment that will be fully operational by the end of September. The additional equipment has created 10 new jobs and allowed the company to continue hiring throughout the economic downturn. An additional £750,000 ($1m USD) of capital investment in equipment is planned between October and December of 2020, to go along with continued heavy investment in inventory at all locations giving customers a greater selection of sizes, walls, and grades of domestic steel pipe.
