On Wednesday April 5th 2017, RedWave is hosting a “Decommissioning Awareness Workshop” in the Netherlands presented by Ian Whitehead, from IW Decom Ltd. Ian has been active within Decommissioning in Oil and Gas since 2011 and from 2014 was involved in coordinating Centrica’s offshore decommissioning activities in its role as an independent consultant. He regularly facilitates workshops, bringing together companies to create opportunities within decommissioning and forming an industry network.
Decommissioning in the Netherlands is still in its infancy, but is taking big steps forward. It is an industry with vast opportunities and possibilities but also has relatively little experience on the Dutch Continental Shelf. Much of the foundations still need to be formed, for example; establishment of technical standards for decommissioning work, developing the right technology, improving the supply chain, finding the right people to carry out this work, knowledge export, and sharing best practices knowledge. The UK has had more experience with offshore decommissioning and has begun the knowledge sharing process with other operators in the industry. Now is the right time for us to form a cooperative network in the Netherlands, bringing together interested parties, to discuss best practice and how this can be done here.
From his experience, Ian Whitehead will introduce you to the offshore decommissioning industry, the different phases of these projects, the opportunities, the problems you may encounter and possible solutions and collaborations. We invite all participants to present a short pitch to introduce they’re business and their goals for this sector. You will be challenged to think out of the box, what would be the ideal situation for your business, what actions can take the group to move forward, what initiatives are there and can they be bundled for collaborative relationships?
