Every year the Sureclean workforce nominate a chosen charity of the year with all fundraising efforts then focussed on smashing their target. Last year, Sureclean staff tackled charity challenges, hosted sponsored 'cook offs' and used an original health and safety scheme to raise over £7,000 for national cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
To boost their fundraising, the workforce hosted a number of charity cook offs and bacon roll mornings, swapping the fast food for an in-house alternative. To counteract the food challenges, a team of 8 took part in the Ythan Challenge in June. Tackling the 13k multi-terrain obstacle race which is famous for its 'bogmeister' course pushed the Sureclean Sprinters to their limits. Other charity incentives throughout the year included: a quiz night, charity raffle and sponsored 10k fun run.
Alness and Aberdeen based Sureclean also uses a creative safety initiative to boost their fundraising. Every year the Company pledges to donate to their charity for every valid Sureclean Observation Card (SOC) raised by their people with a record breaking number of SOCs submitted in 2014. The SOC programme provides a platform for employees to formally document good and bad safety practice, safety observations, proposed improvements with immediate and further actions taken when required. As well as raising money for a worthwhile cause, the SOC scheme allows employees to contribute towards Sureclean's positive safety culture and see their suggestions become implemented throughout the Company.
Sureclean Managing Director, John Barron, commented: "We have supported Macmillan over the past couple of years and the support that the charity provides throughout Scotland is invaluable. Fundraising for Macmillan has proved to be an excellent team building exercise and has increased employee motivation and engagement."
Jennifer Mitchell, Senior Fundraising Manager Macmillan Cancer Support, added "Last year 4,855 people in the North East of Scotland were diagnosed with cancer. The efforts of all staff at Sureclean through the company's initiatives has raised an amazing amount of money for Macmillan. No one should face cancer alone and Sureclean's donation will go towards ensuring no one does."
