Exploring the synergies between the nuclear and oil & gas industries

We are pleased to invite you to our pipeline characterisation and decommissioning workshop in Aberdeen on June 7 at the Oil & Gas Technology Centre. 

The event is a collaboration between the Oil & Gas Technology Centre, NDA Decommissioning Working Group and Decom North Sea and will explore synergies between the nuclear and oil & gas industries.

The aim of the event is to:

  • Provide opportunities for shared learning
  • Help build networks
  • Investigate areas for collaboration
The event includes technical presentations from problem owners, solution providers and research organisations from nuclear and oil & gas including:

  • Angela Bartlett, Magnox - Harwell site case study looking at pipeline characterisation and decommissioning, and the use of GIS.
  • David Wickenden, Magnox - Overview of the off-site active effluent discharge line decommissioning project at Winfrith, including characterisation and innovation.
  • Rob Clark, Nuvia - Nuvia perspective on pipeline decommissioning projects including Harwell and Dounraey.
  • Simon Boniface, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority - Introduction to the NDA and challenges faced across the estate.
  • John Spiteri, Atkins - Insight into the Decommissioning Good Practice Communication Tool.
  • Nic Duncan, Xodus Group - Making a case for the abandonment of pipelines.
  • Proserv - Overview of advances in pipeline recovery methods and current challenges.
  • Richard Heard, Oil & Gas UK
  • Glenn Wilson, Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Limited
