The Department for International Trade (DIT) is organising its first marine trade mission to South Korea focusing on offshore plants and relevant equipment & materials; marine resources exploration & development; and marine environmental preservation & protection.

Why Korea?

Shipbuilding in Korea is dominated by nine major companies, with the largest being Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). The industry produces a wide variety of ship types, but there is a significant share of highvalue large vessels, such as container ships, very large crude oil tankers and gas tankers. In addition, offshore vessels and structures, such as anchor handling tug supply, platform supply vessels and fixed production platforms are an important part of the industry’s output. Korea’s average vessel value is twice that of the global average, and Korean shipbuilders have consistently accounted for more than 30% of the global market in value terms since 2007. Looking ahead, Korea currently accounts for a third of the global order book, with an ongoing focus on large vessels.

DIT in partnership with NOF Energy, is organising and managing the UK Pavilion at Offshore Korea taking place at BEXCO, Busan. It expects to exceed previous attendance numbers which saw 21,396 visitors from 51 countries and 1,000+ leading Korean shipyard visitors. Offshore Korea 2016, is sponsored by the world’s Top 3 Korean shipyards, HHI, DSME and SHI.

Why attend?

  • Present your company to key decision-makers from Korean companies in the offshore plant field including Korean supply chain and potential partner such as JV, distributor/agent through seminars and face to face meetings
  • Learn what requirements are needed and how to do business
  • Access to the DIT UK Pavilion at ‘Offshore Korea’ to conduct meetings
  • Meet the key organisations such as HHI, DSME and SHI
